Cinematography + Video Editing
in Addis AbabaShoot it and cut it — the two halves of filmmaking in one 3-month course

What is the Cinematography + Video Editing course?

It is the two halves of filmmaking taught as one 3-month track at Klick Film & Design School in Addis Ababa. The first half is cinematography — operating a camera, shaping light, framing a shot, and covering a scene so it can actually be cut together. The second half is post-production in Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve — assembly, pacing, colour grading and sound.

The reason to take them together is simple: shooting and editing are the same job seen from two ends. Camera operators who have never edited tend to shoot coverage that will not cut. Editors who have never shot do not know what to ask for. Learning both in sequence, on the same projects, is what lets you finish a film on your own.

Course Structure — 3 Months

Months 1–2 — Cinematography. Camera bodies and lenses, exposure and metering, lighting for interior and exterior, composition and camera movement, and how to cover a scene so an editor has what they need. You shoot throughout, not at the end.

Month 3 — Video Editing. Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve: ingesting and organising footage, assembly and pacing, colour correction and grading, audio cleanup and mixing, and export settings for client delivery and social platforms.

Throughout. You cut the footage you shot yourself. The final project is a complete piece taken from planning to a graded, delivered file.

Class Schedules

Classes meet 3 times per week for 2-hour sessions, with weekday and weekend options at both branches — Mexico (Sengatera Building, 19th Floor) and CMC Michael. A new intake starts every two weeks, and seats are limited per class.

Graduate Outcomes

Graduates work as camera operators and cinematographers, as staff editors in production houses, and as one-person crews shooting and cutting commercial work — weddings, events, brand films, music videos and social content. Being able to deliver a finished, graded cut rather than raw footage is what most often turns a first job into repeat work.

Many list themselves on Klick Konnect, our creative directory, where clients in Addis Ababa hire directly.

Taking it separately

You can take either half on its own: Photography & CinematographyCinematography + Video Editing is 2 months at ETB 10,000, and Video Editing is 1 month at ETB 5,000. The combined track is ETB 15,000 — the same total, taught as one continuous course on shared projects rather than two separate intakes. Choose the combined track for continuity; choose a single course if you only need one skill.
